Scaning computers software and hardware?

Hi, need a little help. There was a program I used a while ago that was free and did a complete computer scan for hardware and software inc if the software was licensed. I cant remember the name of the software does anyone know it or could anyone recommend a program to use? Need to scan a few computers and work out which ones to upgrade. Many thanks!
