Internet won't run on my desktop computer - not a hardware issue?

It is connected - I'm using the same internet from my laptop now - but the Internet on my desktop will not run. It never loads, it only attepmpts to connect and then just fails miserably, ending up not responding. I have reset the winsock but no luck there. Please help me, or the stupid thing is getting thrown out the window.
